Sunrisers Hyderabad Season-by-Season Runners-up

2013 – Fourth
Due to his poor performance, Sangakkara handed the captaincy to White midway through the season and missed half of SRH’s games. In their first season, Sunrisers’ bowling, led by Steyn, ensured they finished in the middle of the pack. In the elimination game, they were defeated by Rajasthan Royals.

2014 – Sixth
In order to give Dhawan more time to concentrate on his batting, Sunrisers gave Sammy the captaincy at the end of the campaign. With Warner typically batting in the middle of the order, they struggled to strike the correct balance and ended the season with just six victories from 14 games.

2015 – Sixth
Warner assumed the captaincy, but it made little difference to the team’s performance as SRH missed the playoffs for the second year in a row. This time, they had seven victories in their final 14 games. Nonetheless, Warner finished with the most runs scored in the competition.

2016 – Champions
their first IPL victory. Again taking the lead, Warner received assistance from Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Mustafizur Rahman with the ball. After placing third in the group stage, SRH defeated Gujarat Lions in the second qualifier, Knight Riders in the eliminator, and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the championship match.

2017 – Third
In the elimination round, the defending champions lost, but Warner took home the orange crown and Bhuvneshwar the purple. Mohammad Nabi and Rashid made their IPL debuts during the season; Nabi won Player-of-the-Match in his second game and finished the competition with 17 wickets from 14 games.

2018 – Runners-up
Williamson took over and led excellently after Warner was expelled from the tournament for his part in the Newlands ball-tampering incident. With the bat, he led the team to the championship match, where SRH lost to Shane Watson and the Chennai Super Kings.

2019 – Fourth
Warner came back, although he wasn’t captain this time. He ended up with the most runs scored in the competition for the third time. He and Jonny Bairstow made outstanding opening pairs, but the middle order and seamers weren’t able to fully capitalize on their performances. They were able to go to the playoffs thanks to a higher net run rate, but they were defeated by the Delhi Capitals in the first round.

2020 – Third
Sunrisers overcome a slew of injuries under Warner’s leadership to reach the playoffs for the fifth straight year. Although they were defeated by the Caps in the second qualifier, they discovered new champions in Jason Holder, Sandeep Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha, and T Natarajan who helped them recover from six losses in their opening nine games.

2021 – Eighth
A year in which Sunrisers experienced minimal success. Midway through the competition, Warner had trouble using the bat and was removed from the team. Williamson took over as captain but was unable to make things better. They started the season with eight losses in nine games and ended it with the wooden spoon.

2022 – Eighth
Sunrisers won five straight games after dropping their first two contests because of their quick bowlers’ ability to hold opponents to low totals. But, their pace attack lost its significance as the pitches loosened up. They could only win one of their final seven games as a result of this and Williamson’s poor play.
