The Indian Premier League in 2023 would be played on a home-and-away format, which will bring back the excitement for fans at home. The IPL 2023 season will have 74 matches between the 10 participating teams.
There will be a group stage and playoffs for the competition. The last time this home-and-away format was used for the tournament was in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, BCCI made a number of adjustments and successfully held the competition for the previous three seasons.
The last three IPLs have been staged in fewer locations; the 2022 edition was held in Mumbai and Pune, the 2021 edition was first held in a few locations in India before moving to the UAE, and the 2020 IPL was entirely held in the UAE.
The competition’s most recent iteration was held at six different locations in Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. The league stage matches were played in three locations in Mumbai and one in Pune, while the playoff games were held in Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
The IPL 2022 championship game at Narendra Modi Stadium set a Guinness World Record for having the highest T20 match crowd.
In IPL 2023 season each team will play 14 league matches in total. Seven of those 14 games will be played on their home field, and the remaining seven will be played on the home field of their opponent (away).

- An Impact Player is not permitted to serve as a captain, according to the BCCI.
- In the event that it becomes necessary, an Impact Player may replace a retired batter.
- Each match allows for the usage of one Impact Player for each team. But, it is not required. Teams can decide whether or not to utilise the Impact Player.

- A substitute fielder may only replace an injured player in the event of an injury to the impact player during play if the umpires are satisfied.
- The replacement is not allowed to bowl or serve as captain.
- The player off the field for the replacement will be subject to penalty time for the batting and fielding teams in accordance with the game’s rules.
