Indian Team T20 World Cup Squad 2024

India T20 World Cup 2024 squad

India’s pursuit of glory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be spearheaded by Rohit Sharma, according to the squad unveiled by BCCI.

Before the announcement, speculation surrounded the choice of wicketkeeper, with several contenders in contention. Eventually, India selected Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson for the position.

Pant’s return to international cricket after a serious accident in December 2022, which sidelined him for over a year, is noteworthy.

Shivan Dube’s impressive performance in the IPL made it difficult to exclude him from the squad, retaining his spot after featuring in the recent T20I series against Afghanistan. The 30-year-old has been outstanding for the Chennai Super Kings, scoring 350 runs in nine matches at a remarkable strike rate 172.41.

India has opted for a spin-heavy bowling attack, including Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. At the same time, the pace department will be led by Jasprit Bumrah, supported by Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and vice-captain Hardik Pandya.

The selection of batters did not spring any surprises, with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav expected to bolster the top order alongside captain Rohit.

Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh have been named as reserves, along with pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.

A notable omission from India’s roster is KL Rahul, who featured in the last two T20 World Cup campaigns (2021 and 2022).
