The stadium held its inaugural international match on February 4, 1981. England and the West Indies played an ODI match that resulted in a close victory for the hosts by a score of two runs.

1997 the ground hosted its first Test match, a draw between West Indies and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka concluded their innings at 233–8 while chasing a target of 269 runs. The second Test match at the venue occurred in 2009, witnessing Bangladesh secure their first Test win against West Indies by 95 runs. Seven Test debutants were named in the West Indies team’s lineup during this time because of a dispute with the West Indies Cricket Board that left them shorthanded of important players.

In preparation for the 2007 Cricket World Cup, which was held in the West Indies, extensive renovations were undertaken at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex. These renovations spanned 18 months and included enlarging the playing area of the ground. Additionally, new facilities such as a stand, media center, operations center, and pavilion were constructed on the eastern side of the ground.

In Arnos Vale, close to Kingstown, St. Vincent, there is a cricket ground called Arnos Vale Stadium. Situated close to and to the west of the Arnos Vale Playing Field, the multi-use ground is a part of the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.
The stadium, which seats 18,000 people, is mostly utilized for football and cricket matches.
