Afghanistan has unveiled its 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the West Indies and the USA in June. Rashid Khan will lead the team.
Compared to the 2022 edition, Afghanistan has introduced new faces to its squad, including Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad.
Notably absent from the lineup is Hashmatullah Shahidi, who captained Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. His last T20I appearance dates back to 2022.
Young talent Nangyal Kharoti, who made his international debut against Ireland in March, has earned a spot in the squad. The 20-year-old showcased his skills in that series, claiming five wickets in three matches with an impressive economy rate of just 5.90.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Ishaq, who represented Afghanistan in the 2020 and 2022 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cups, also secured a berth in the squad.
Rashid Khan will spearhead the spin department, supported by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and veteran Mohammad Nabi.
The fast-bowling lineup features the likes of Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooq, all of whom retain their positions.
